acupuncture?

i have chronic daily headache, migraines, severe allergies, asthma, and [very severe] acid reflux. i also have a very weak immune system since i got mono at a young age. [no not from kissing] my parents are all about me getting acupuncture because my neurologist says that i’m not responding even to pain medication [for headaches] but i’m not so sure about some dude sticking a bunch of needles in my body!!!!! i have seen it done before.. but it was to a dog and they weren’t very fond of being held down, i know that’s different.. but STILL! i dont understand how needles on my body’s pressure points will help! there are other options that i can try but my parents are so keen on acupuncture! [i'm going to be doing biofeedback and a pain clinic] i also know that acupuncture has worked multiple times for many people but hasnt worked enough to be considered a real medical treatment… but i guess what i’m asking for here is comfort?

    Danielle :],

Acupuncture theory in a picture – It is theorized that the living body is permeated by a vital energy that Chinese medicine identifies as qi. It is very much like an ocean within all parts of the body. Acupuncture meridians are the currents in the ocean that move it, and circulate it. The points that are punctured are areas where the currents come close to the skin’s surface and offer us places were the current can be adjusted and altered. Think about the El Nino effect from a few years ago, when changes in the ocean currents effected weather patterns. Changes in the currents have an systemic effect of the whole ocean, thereby effecting the whole body.

For the most part, Acupuncture in the United States is very gentle. The needles are a mere fraction of the thickness you find in a syringe because acupuncture needles are solid as opposed to hollowed out injection needles.

Acupuncture is considered to be a real medical therapy, and there are literally hundreds of years of observational data to support acupuncture’s effectiveness. Aside from rare and minor bruising, it has almost zero negative side-effects when practiced by a trained professional.

Finally, look at it this way. Standard care isn’t working as well as you would like. At its very least usage, Acupuncture is a very nice complementary system of pain relief and management. What is freedom from pain worth to you?

I had a 3-session acupuncture cure. Yep, the needles were uncomfortable, but the results were phenomenal.

I’d be really careful, though, to stay away from the mysticism part.

A good acupuncturist will be able to get you through the fear or worry about the needles. The needles are very fine and you don’t feel anything. You won’t need to be held down! It isn’t like needles you get with shots.

Acupuncture can be very good for things like this.

If you had mono, you may also still have an active epstein barr virus. I would get tested for that and any other viruses and then work on your immune system with herbs by going to a Naturopath who deals with these things.
