Much can be celebrated about acupuncture and the history of acupuncture dated back many centuries ago. This ancient form of medicine was almost discontinued but it has seen flourished in the last two decades. Western and traditional form of medicine is not a cure-all and alternative form of treatments has become as popular to manage pain, overcome illness and improve your overall quality of life. It is the closeness to natural form of treatment that appeals to people.

Acupuncture was founded in China centuries ago and there are historical records to indicate that this form of medicine was practiced. There are some who believed that the history of acupuncture dated way back to the formation of Taoist tradition which was 8000 years old. When Taoist meditates, they realize there is a flow of energy in their bodies that provide the vital energy known as qi. The renowned Taoist legend Fu His lived on the Yellow river and he was credited for developing the first theories of yin-yang through observing nature. In his later life, he came out with the Book of Change or I-Ching which was the outline of the trigrams that became very popular.

The history of acupuncture was traced on the basis of needles that are found today.  In some part of China which housed the ancient ruin, needles are found dated back to as far as the New Stone Age which was from 10,000 to 4000 years back. At that time, people are already skilled in refining stone into very thin needles. The needles were then used to heal the body and were given the name of bian stone. The name implies a sharp object that is used to treat illness.

Some essential things are noted in the history of acupuncture, for instant during the period of Huang di dated from 2697 to 2597. It was an important period where Huang Di and the physician Qi Bo collaborate and develop acupuncture as well as many of the ancient form of Chinese arts. The text, The Nei Jing (The Yellow Emperors Classic of Internal Medicine) was developed and was paramount for acupuncture as it was where you find techniques, needles, acupuncture points and descriptions of the meridians.

Many refinements of these processes continue with the history of acupuncture leading to new and advanced acupuncture methods. Nowadays the basis of acupuncture can be found in ancient acupuncture.
